Petilia Policastro is an ancient village in central Calabria, originally surrounded by defensive walls. Testimonies of settlements of Brettia origin were found in its territory, along the rivers Tacina and Soleo. There are some very ancient churches in Petilia Policastro: St. Maria Maggiore, dating back to 1400; St. Nicola Pontefice and I’Annunziata, 1600. In the old Town, in Largo St. Sebastiano, in front of the current fagade of St. Nicola, an old cemetery was found.
